Why can't our teeth grow back like our finger nails?

It's a slow day plus I'm curious to see what you people know.

For your trouble, you get 2 to 12 points. Why can't our teeth grow back like our finger nails?
Teeth are made up of different material then nails. You can't compare them, they are both specialized tissues with separate functions. Finger nails are abraded much quicker then teeth and so there is the need to replace them. Two sets of teeth is all we need in our life. Or at least WAS all we needed back when evolution was actively taking place.

Hmm here are some observations regarding the previous posts:

1) ';Teeth are like bones';. True but not entirely. You see, if you fracture your bone, it will heal. Teeth on the other hand do not heal themselves. Never heard, nor read, in any dental textbook about a vertical tooth fracture healing spontaneously. N.B. dentine DOES have some reparative functions but they are limited to formation of secondary or sclerotic layer. Not regeneration.

2) ';Only parts can be restored, like the enamel';. By itself? No. Once there is a cavity in enamel then no matter what happens the body will not refill it. True that saliva continues to deposit calcium into enamel but that's not the same as healing.

3) ';Nails are made from keratin (protein) which grows constantly until death';. Actually finger nails and hair continue to grow for a limited period even after death. Go figure ;)

Dr. SamiWhy can't our teeth grow back like our finger nails?
Teeth are not bones (or fingernails), but LIKE bones, they grow to a certain size and stop. Beaver's teeth, however, keep growing and are just worn down by gnawing on trees/bark... but we're not beavers. Teeth, unlike bones, can not regenerate themselves. That's why we have to take better care of them. You can't just put a splint or cast on them and expect them to heal themselves.
besides the fact that fingernails are made of a different material along time ago humans usually only lived until about maybe 40 years old and humans today live longer and usually lose their teeth past that age so evolution figured we would only need teeth until about 40 so why use limited space to make uneccesary teeth
Teeth are made from bone and cannot be regenerated.

Nails are made from keratin (protein) which grows constantly until death.

Your hair is also made from keratin.
Your teeth are bones that aren't replaced; They are embedded in your jaw until they appear. Only parts can be restored, like the enamel. But the whole tooth can't.

  • Should I get acrylic nails? Are they bad for you? How much do they cost?

I want to get acrylic nails for my graduation, I am 12 yrs. old. How much do they cost?

Oh yeah and if you know any good, clean salons in Bayonne, NJ please tell me only if you have been there. Thank you!!!Should I get acrylic nails? Are they bad for you? How much do they cost?
I've had acrylics for the last seven years. They look gorgeous if you have a good nail girl. If you are just getting them for your graduation and them taking them off, you should be fine. If you have them on for a long period of time, your nails are significantly weakened and brittle.Should I get acrylic nails? Are they bad for you? How much do they cost?
i got them when i was 12 and only got them on special occasions but now that i'm 21 i can see how much they ruined my nails it to be 5 yrs to get them to look good on their own but they will never look as good as they did be for i got fake nails, i wouldn't start if i were you.
20 dollars, once you get them you have to go back every week or so to get them filled in. When you get ready to take them off, they thin the nail, scar them, and sometimes a fungus infection can develop. Just go to the salon and have them to design your own nails.
They can be bad for your nails if they're not done right because they use a machine to make your nail rough on top so the glue sticks to them. If you're not planning on keeping them on for a while, I wouldn't bother. you need a fill-in about every 2 weeks unless your nails grow really fast. They look nice, but they're pricey. I'm in Alabama and they cost about $24 for a full set, and about $15 per fill-in. The price varies from state-to-state and city-to-city as well. But it's an expensive upkeep regardless.
I'm no help as far as the cost. But I can tell you that two of my daughters had them done. They fell in love with them so decided to have them done a few more times from a very reputable, clean salon but when they removed them that last time they realized that their own nails had become discolored, split, and just plain messy looking. The gals at the salon said that happens with several people. Needless to say they've never had it done again. Hate to throw water on something you'd really like to do but checking it out first is a good idea.
they are horrible for your nails. my aunt has them and one fell off and her nail was sooo damaged. they are not very cheap either. they are 12-30 dollars for 10 nails.
It all depends on your nails....are they weak? because if they are the acrylics will damage your real nails and it will have 2 look bad for about 2 weeks...because thats how long it takes for the nail 2 grow from the bed to the top... Oh and you already know to be careful...but I'll give some personal experience. I went to a nail shop and the tech was apparently having a bad day so she filled my skin off from the side of my nails, I didn't realize it untill I went to wash my hands when the pain struck. Also I got my nails done then when she told me to go wash my hands as part of the process the bathroom and were they kept their equipment was digustingly dirty. Just make sure you go someplace were they are known for cleanliness and doing a good job. Also dont do gel nails because they will fall out before you have them on for a week if they use the real gel nails because now people are starting to mix acrylic with gel nail since its easier to do...Good luck.
you are to young you will ruin nails...you can also get a affection!
those fake nails can ruin your real nails. So i wouldn't leave them on for too long.
Ultimatly it is up to you whether or not you get them...I just got acrylic nails for the first time lst week and at the end of it all I ended up spending about $30. They take awhile to get used to but they are fun to have. Look at this way...if they were really bad for you then not so many people would have them...they are only bad for you if they don't clean teir instruments well. have fun...
Acrylic nails will damage your natural nails and starve them from nourishment. It will dry out and become irritated. You should stay away from acrylic nails especially at your age. Try some nail stickers and glitter polish:)
A good set is about 30 dollars. They are bad if they scratch up your nails too much to secure them. They grind into your nails to secure the nail and can ruin the nailbed. If you want them on temporarily-- ask them not to grind, that you won't be getting them refilled. It can be quite painful if they grind to far down so be careful.

Just do one thing: Dont get super long tacky nails. UGH. totally trashy.
Use Lee press on nails. In order for them to place the acrylic nail on they have to sand down your original nail to an almost paper thin consistency. This leaves the nail very thin and prone to bacteria. If the salon does not use sterile techniques you can end up on the bad end right off. you have to continue to keep them filled in each month. Original cost is 30-40$ and then 12-20$ for fill ins. You say your 12 and I'm sure very active physically and do you have any idea how painful it is to break one of these babies. You can not just decide to have them on for an occasion and then just take them off. It is a commitment. When you do take them off your nail are so thin and will have to grow back to normal in due time. If the salons are not using sterile technique the end results could be lost nails for ever. Use the Lee press on nails

Can you use your nails to use the touch screen on omnia?

i was looking at getting the omnia from verizon wireless but i was wondering is you had to use your fingertips or if you could use your nails on the touch screen? Can you use your nails to use the touch screen on omnia?
Yes, the Samsung Omnia has a pressure sensitive touch screen, meaning you can use anything to activate the touch screen. I personally prefer heat sensitive touch screens (like the iphone) and am waiting for Verizon to release a heat sensitive touch screen phone.

What do girls think about a guy who gets his nails done like a girl ( full set of fingernails and polished)?

Sometimes it just makes me feel better... That doesn't make me gay does it?What do girls think about a guy who gets his nails done like a girl ( full set of fingernails and polished)?
you're not gay unless you're into GUYS.... and not all gay guys have their nails done! so if you are wondering if you are gay.. ask yourself if you are attracted to guys more than you are to girls.

but are you getting colors? or just a clear coat? and are you getting a full set.. like fake acrylic nails? have you asked any of your girl friends about it? but if you are getting full-on manicures with the acrylic nails and colors...... i might find it a little weird... but then again... also jealous because your nails probably look better than mine ;p

but i definitely don't mind a guy with clean and well-kept nails.. fingers or toes ;)What do girls think about a guy who gets his nails done like a girl ( full set of fingernails and polished)?
Of course it doesn't make you gay. Gay means when you like other guys. But I have to admit it would make you appear gay. Don't worry about what people think, it makes you feel good. If its makes you feel than by all means keep doing it. Besides, girls like guys with clean, nice nails (at least I do). Don't worry about it, be yourself.
If a guy gets a full set with color, he's usually either gay or a crossdresser. And I do mean ';full set'; like acrylic tips. Even without the tips, men who get color on their nails usually fall into one of those categories. The only exception I've seen is punk, goth, etc guys painting their nails black. And then, they don't GET them done, they do them theirselves. Metrosexual guys are known to get their nails done and such, but usually it's just a manicure, maybe with some clear polish. A full set with color? That's definitely a girly pick-me-up.

For you to feel that girly pick-me-up and be unsure enough about it to ask this question, maybe you should take a look at yourself and see if this is something you want to look into. Good luck!
    :-D

    :-D

    LOL.........sorry, can't stop laffing!
That's what some people would call metro- or metrosexual. If you like it, do it. It's not something that I would do, but that's your life. If people don't like it, tell 'em to go get stuffed!!!

Being gay means you like other men, instead of women.
I don't think that means you are gay.

Gay means you like guys, not clean nails. Goodness.
I heard of straight guys doing it, just haven't seen any. Kinda like Bigfoot.

If you're not gay, you're definitely a little too metro.
    MOST GIIIRLS THINL HE'S GAY...

    (BUT NOT ME)
    Acrylic nails? O_o

    if so, then yes.
    It sure does!
i'm gonna say gay. but you COULD be metro
Girls are gonna think you are gay wheather you are or not. There is no way I would even think about doing that.
I guess you can get it like once in a while. and i mean a WHILE. cause guys dont take care of themselves and they tend to have really gross feet. not so much hands though.
    dude i think that's gay..
I don't know if you are gay or not, I mean in order to be gay you have to like other men. You are the only one that can answer that question. I do think you might have gender identity issues. Do you also like to wear anything femine or dress that way to ';feel Better';, do you identify more with females than males ? Maybe you should talk to a professional, so that you can sort through your confusion~

    Good luck!
umm.... probably.... no offense, im a guy, and ive never had that weird desire. hmm... i would have 2 say grls thinks its gay.

I need to install metal carpet grippers on concrete. Would liquid nails work? The concrete is old.?

the carpet grippers are to just hold the carpet in place, not to stretch the carpet. i had to take out carpet in my bathroom but still have it in my bedroom so i need to tack down the carpet so i don't trip on it. I've put allure linoleum in my bathroom. Would liquid nails work for this?I need to install metal carpet grippers on concrete. Would liquid nails work? The concrete is old.?
There are special gripper edges manufactured for concrete and you fasten them with masonry nails.

How can i get finger nail polish from your finger nails without finger nail polish remover?

i got finger nail polish on finger nails and cant get them off what do i do? please help!!!!!How can i get finger nail polish from your finger nails without finger nail polish remover?
    scrape it off?

if it's not the kind that scrapes off easily, stop trying to do it. you'll kill your nails.

you could try painting over them and while the polish is still wet, wipe it off. i've done this before because i have this one weird nailpolish that likes to take other nailpolishes off...

good luck! How can i get finger nail polish from your finger nails without finger nail polish remover?
scrape it off? but if u scrape it off, it hurts ur nails. liek it damages them. i suggest not to do it. if u use nail polish remover, it gives ur nail vitamins. like vitamin E which makes ur nail strong.
Try rubbing alcohol or scratching it off. Soak your hands in hot/warm water with epson salt first before you scratch it off.
Try to chip it off :)

I really have no idea lol ive never had that problem.
    file it off!

    How to stop biting nails?

I've tried before but it only lasts for about 2 weeks. The best technique I've used is using nail polish which is supposed to strengthen your nails. How to stop biting nails?
    if nail polish doesn't work...

    -clip them

-put fake nails on them! then you'll be biting fake ones

-chew gum? like maybe you'll be biting the gum instead of the nails?

-cover your nails with chili sauce! ha! see you good those taste now!

-tape the tips of your fingertips, so you can't get to your nails

    -oh i know! wear GLOVES:)

~ i hope those help! ~How to stop biting nails?
    Face your fears!

Country I come from will kick kids out of school for doing that (russia)

In my culture its considered a mental weekness and parents REALLY give it to their kids for biting nails.

One of my Ex's bit her nails and a few times I caught her, I made her tell me the truth about whats on her mind and I made her either FACE her fears or I took care of whatever was making her nervous.

so yhe, the right guy, even if you tell him not to tell you how to live your life, will tell you and MAKE you stop.

Otherwise, its just a bad habit you need to break, on the bright side, its not a physical addiction to Crack or Nicotine =)

So break the habit!!! Break the Habit, you don't need any of that other stuff, you can just Stop if you have at-least a little bit of brains.
if you go to your local chemist you should be able to find some stuff that is like nail polish-but is more liquid and doesn't show-if you can't find it go to the counter and ask, and if you bite your nails you get a really foul taste in your mouth that goes after a couple of minutes.. It worked for me!
get a pocket nailfile and every time you catch yourself biting, just file them until they aren't ragged anymore, replace the bad habit with a good habit, worked for my i don't bite anymore and have great nails.
try painting your nails clear so it tastes bad when you bite down. That or whenever you wash your wand scrape your finger nails across the soap bar so you have a thin layer of bad tasting soap under your nails. This is how I stopped biting mine. Hope it helps.
Keep them clipped or if you're trying to grow them get them nail tips put on. Those can't be bitten.
    try putting nail polish..
