I want to get my nails done, and I don't want it to hurt. I'm very sensitive :) Plus I don't want to destory my nails.Does getting acrylic nails hurt, and does it damage your natural nails?
As a nail tech, I would just like to point out a couple of things.
If getting your nails done causes you pain in any way, and/or your nails are damaged in the process, then you are going to a bad tech. Nail services should NEVER hurt in any way. Ever.
In most cases, the technicians who work at discount salons (Think Walmart's Regal Nails) are not experienced, are often untrained, and many times unlicensed. Thus, they are usually not qualified to do your nails. Add to that fact this point: They charge very low prices. In order to keep those prices low, and still make a profit, they do things which are not in the best interest of the client. One of those things is the use of the cheapest acrylic prioducts available, and often those products contain MMA. MMA is a substance which has been banned for for use on nails for over 20 years, and it WILL ruin your nails.Even worse, it can cause serious health problems. They still use this substance because it is a fraction of the cost of the approved products which good, reputable salons use. And, since MMA does not adhere well to the natural nail, they use a Dremel drill (NOT for use on nails, and illegal for such use in many states). To make it adhere, they will 'etch' your nails (rough them up) quite badly. For those of you who say that your nails are ruined from filing them, this is most often the reason why. A drill should never be used on your natural nails. Nor should MMA.
See this video for more information on MMA, and also the other link on the dangers of discount nail salons because of their well known unsanitary, and often dangerous, and illegal practices:

In short, getting acrylic nails done by a licensed, well trained, and experienced nail tech will not hurt you, nor will it damage your nails (in most cases anyway). Many people think that it is the acrylic which ruins your nails, and cheap products with MMA will do just that.It is often a bad tech who will ruin your nails.Does getting acrylic nails hurt, and does it damage your natural nails?
yes %26amp; yes.
it doesn't hurt to get them
but it really does thin them
i would suggest just a french manicure.
they are cute
ive had mine done twice, and the first time it didnt hurt at all. the second time it hurt a little only because i got a different person, and she used the buffer the wrong way. if you stop getting them done, if you take them off yourself your nails will be very thin at first. or you could just let them grow out and cut them off gradually. its worth it to get them done, i loved mine.
If you are going to a licensed nail tech in a reputable salon then it should never hurt to get your nails done.
It doesn't hurt getting them, but after sometimes it feels uncomfortable, you are getting something glued to your natural nail. It will damage your natural nail.
They will destroy your natural nails. They will grow but they will become very brittle. It doesn't hurt to get them done though. Sometimes they feel a little sore the day after you get them.
i only had them done once...i have really hard nice thick natural nails so i dunno why i did it ...just for fun i guess...anyways it ruins ur natural nails till they grow out...LOL once my natural nails grew out they were right back to normal...ithink its bullshit i dont think it permanently ruins your nails think of it you nails grow from inside your body...LOL its always new nails that keep on growing how can it effect that?????...that would be the same as getting a perm and burning all your hair and shaving your head bald and the new hair growing in bunt to...wouldnt happen...i think girls just lie and say it ruins their nails cos they have bad nails to begin with and like to pretend they didnt always have horrible nails...HAHAH
It does not hurt if the nail tech knows what she is doing. Unfortunately, it can make your real nails thin because everytime they do a fill, they rough up your real nail to make sure that the acrylic adheres. Instead of acrylic, why not try gel nails of your tech does them. They are easier for the tech to do and are less damaging to the nails.
No it doesnt hurt to get your nails done unless they do it wrong then yes it will hurt and your real nails become very thin and brittle and break alot
It hurt when I got my acrylics done for the first time because I had some hangnails and I have pretty sensitive nails. They also hurt a bit for the first few days and it feels weird to pick up things. I took my nails off myself and my fingernails were pretty weak and ugly for about a month. If you are willing to get them done on a regular basis they won't be that bad because they do look really pretty.
it doesnt hurt if they do it right
it wont destrythem but they have to cut them down sometimes
