its like a bruise on your nail. you hit it on something, and it disrupts the normal growth and it turns white for a while. What causes those white specks that you sometimes get on your nails?
I was always told it was calcium....???
White spots on the nails are very common and usually recur. These small, semi-circular spots result from injury to the base (matrix) of the nail, where nail cells are produced or imperfections when the nail is formed. As the nail grows these blemishes are pushed outward. Frequently the culprit of these spots is careless manicuring. These spots are not cause for concern and will eventually grow out.

Another leading cause of these white specs is a diet that is deficient in zinc. You could try taking a zinc supplement and see if this clears up the problem.

Sorry for being a little long winded. But hope this answers your question.
i think it means you're not getting enough calcium. or some other vitamin.
White specks on your nails indicate that there is some kind of imbalance in your body. A couple of possibilities (among others)...you may be deficient in the mineral zinc. It could also mean that you need to take a silica supplement. DO NOT TAKE these substances until you have been tested for any deficiencies/imbalances by a competent and highly qualified health care practitioner. They are not candy.

If you eat a B.A.D. (Basic American Diet), it is very likely that you will have some vitamin and mineral deficiencies. You may benefit from seeking out professional help in the form of a holistically-oriented MD, naturopathic physician or clinical nutritionist as they will be much more familiar with this subject matter compared to the typical doctor, who gets virtually little or no training in nutrition or natural healing modalities.

If you are suffering from any type of nutrient deficiency it's wise to address it now instead of facing more serious health consequences down the road. AND remember to eat a very healthy diet--organic foods as often as possible and avoid all sugar, processed food, artificial sweeteners, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, caffeine as these foods will destroy vital nutrients.

Remember--your good health is the most precious thing you possess...so get this checked out.

Best of health
Lack of calcium in your body.
